Fortitude Performance

Grappling Athlete Training

A real passion of mine at FP is grappling athlete coaching around making people the most complete athlete they can be. From Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to Judo and Submission Grappling these require you to view yourself as an athlete to stay injury free, get your best performance on the mat and stay on the mat long enough to realise your potential.
While there is a lot of information out there around grappling athlete training we feel at FP in partnership with Grappling Education we offer a complete solution. A complete solution to the many problems which can face a grappling athlete from day-to-day or over a competitive year such as:

  • How to manage training and fatigue?
  • Best strength and conditioning program for them?
  • Improving strengths and fixing weaknesses – Where to start?
  • Individualizing your strength and conditioning towards your game?
  • Where and how to fit in their technical and tactical development?
The system that we have developed around training the grappling athlete comes from my own experiences in grappling myself. I have been doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu since 2008 and currently hold a Brown Belt in both BJJ and Judo. I also compete extensively on the Sydney scene in IBJJF, Grappling Industries and NSW Judo competitions throughout the year. For me competing is always a great way to judge how you are progressing and what you need to improve on. As I mentioned before it became apparent to me that there needed to be a system around this.
From my own research around best methods from developing professional athletes we have focused on 5 main pillars to help develop a grappling athlete:

  • Technical/Tactical – we can develop specific programs around developing the skills you need in your grappling which cover drilling, specific drilling and implementation in sparring and competition.
  • Physical Preparation – a strength and conditioning program that covers everything you need for complete physical preparation -strength, conditioning, mobility and recovery.
  • Psycho-Behavioral (Sports Psychology)-learn how to develop specific skills around goal setting, visualization , motivation and handling the stress of competing.
  • Lifestyle/Nutrition-we give you the skills and knowledge around fueling your performance, weight management and having the best lifestyle to perform.
  • Fundamental Movement Skills-a athlete who can move well is less likely to be injured and is more likely to perform better.
  • As you can see we have put some definite though in providing you the most professional and complete grappling athlete training in Sutherland. We are athletes ourselves and set out to develop a program that we knew would help a grappling athlete reach their potential over the long-term.

What is the Fortitude Performance Five Pillar System? It’s our original program to ensure our clients achieve the best results possible! It consists of:
    • Training
    • Nutrition
    • Lifestyle
    • Habits
    • Accountability
It is a myth that you need to give 100% every session to achieve results. In truth, this is unsustainable and often detrimental to your overall health and well being. In our Semi Private Personal Training program, we work on building you up slowly over time with a focus on proper technique, reducing risk of injury, and teaching you how to train efficiently.
Nutrition – One of the key services we offer our clients, and one that is a key factor in helping them achieve lasting results, is understanding the important role Nutrition plays in your fitness journey. In our program, we will teach you the following fundamentals of nutrition:
    1) Understanding what a calorie is and how these breakdowns into macro nutrients of protein, fats and carbohydrates.
    2) Learning proper portion control skills around measuring food and understanding the calorie value around your food options.
    3) Understanding how to hit your optimal fiber intake.

To have a long term, healthy lifestyle, factors such as sleep, stress management, hydration and daily steps are extremely important. As part of our program, we provide insight and training around how to improve in these areas for better performance, improved body composition, and overall live a healthier life.

Habits are the unconscious things we do throughout our day that either lead us closer or further away from the type of person we are trying to be. We will help you understand and eliminate bad habits that may be stopping you from making the changes you want to make in your life.
